Carolyn Jean (Dupuy) Webb grew up in East
Hartford with parents who afforded her the opportunity to study violin
at the Hartt School of Music with Thomas F. Downes, later of the
Detroit Symphony. Other principal teachers have included Dorothy Bales
and Stephen Wood.
Carolyn joined the then Connecticut String Orchestra in 1983, serving
as president during the transition years of 1994-1996 when the CSO
became the CVCO. She has been a sometime player with the Farmington
Valley Symphony, as well as the Emmanuel College and University of
Bridgeport Orchestras, and was a regular member of the Talcott String
Quartet for 11 years. She currently plays with the Sunset Quartet
(Quintet), the Holy Family Monastery Orchestra, and the St. Joseph
College Festival Orchestra. She continues to enjoy music study and
music-making with her pianist and philosopher husband, Dr. Thomas R.
Webb.
As a high school mathematics / physics / ecology teacher for 13 years,
Carolyn also taught short courses in violin for student enrichment
projects. Now, in between musical activities, Carolyn serves full-time
as Radiation Safety Officer and Toxicologist / Environmental
Epidemiologist in the Chemical Response Program of the Connecticut
Department of Public Health Laboratory. Carolyn has degrees in
mathematics, physics, and environmental health sciences from Emmanuel
College, the University of Notre Dame, and the Harvard School of Public
Health.
