Mr.
Jones
was born September 21, 1953, in Burlington, Vermont. His mother was a
social worker, and his father a professor of English at the University
of Vermont.
He received his Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance from the
Hartt School of Music in 1976. He then received his Master of Music in
Bassoon Performance from the Yale University School of Music in 1979.
His principal teachers include Donald Sinta and Arthur Weisberg.
He performed for 25 years as the contra bassoonist in the Hartford
Symphony Orchestra, and as principal bassoonist in the Hartford Chamber
Orchestra, and the Waterbury, New Britain, Meriden, and Central
Massachusetts Symphony Orchestras. He has performed with all of New
England's top regional orchestras, including the New Haven Symphony,
Springfield Symphony, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic. He has
appeared as soloist with the Hartford Chamber Orchestra, New Britain
Symphony, Central Massachusetts Symphony, and the Hartt Wind Ensemble.
Self taught as a double bassist, he has embarked on a new performing
career on that instrument, finding a new world of music in the familiar
repertory.
Mr. Jones is also deeply involved as a teacher of music. He has taught
at the Hartford Conservatory, Central Connecticut State University, and
is currently an instructor of instrumental music in the Southington
Public Schools.
